A Chance Encounter…The Sea-Dweller 4000

I recently decided to upgrade my quartz Omega Seamaster Mid Size and purchase a larger chronometer. With my heart firmly set on a Rolex Sea-Dweller or Submariner I was somewhat disappointed to find that I would have to endure a waiting list. Well, not possessing the patience for the waiting list nor the desire to pay over the RRP I resigned myself to an Omega Seamaster GMT. Then while out of town, by pure chance I noticed a brand new Sea-Dweller in the window of a authorized dealer. I tried both the Seamaster GMT and the Sea-Dweller and 5 minutes later the shop assistant proceeded to complete the Rolex guarantee form.

ahhh the Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 …now THAT’s a REAL man’s watch! Got mine back in ‘89. It’s THE standard for a diving watch that everyone copies…. and it looks good in a t-shirt or in a tux.

You Can’t go wrong with the Sea-Dweller .I own a K # 2001 forget the GMT II dont waste your time theres nothing better than a good ol’ S.D. it is about 4 mm thicker than a Sub . simply put ” bad ass” . A regular sub doesn’t cut the mustard compared to a Sea-Dweller.

I just got my sea dweller and i am very please with. best rolex watch for me better than the daytona. In my opinion, there are fewer people who have a sea dweller than a daytona. This is what i call a monster rolex!

I have been fascinated with Rolex watches; I guess I was influenced by my dad. As a kid, I would always check out his collections, its nothing fancy just the usual oysterdates, dates and a day date. I love looking at it, cleaning it, something I cannot explain why I was lured and mesmerized by these watches. Anyways, as I grew up my dad gave me his day date. At first thought I thought this it for me I have the top of the line in the Rolex watches, elated as I was for being given such a privilege, I guess I feel that there is something missing, cause I have always have been a sporty person and I feel the watch is to flashy for me, people might assume I’m a rich guy when in fact im just starting out. Anyways, an event happened to my life wherein I had to sell my watch in the hope I will be able to start an investment, sad to say it didn’t work well. My dad didn’t know that I sold the watch so I vowed to myself that I would buy a Rolex to replace the one that I sold. That’s what I did, at first I thought I might buy the same watch that I sold but I realized that I wasn’t happy with it, so I just browse and read the different models of Rolex until finally I was able to check out the sea dweller. I read reviews on the sea dweller and they said that it was the biggest and the heaviest Rolex watch ever, not only that it was pressure proof for up to 4000 feet but the deciding factor for me was that there is not much people who have sea dweller. They say the Daytona is the most sought after Rolex watch and that there is not much stock to cover the demand. I guess that is true but when it comes to exclusivity I believe that there are fewer people who have sea dwellers than Daytona. Take my case, I a lot of my friends have Daytona, they have all the different types of Rolex watches from sport watches to the daydates but no one not even a single one has a sea dweller except me. I checked out watch dealers that sell brand new and preloved Rolexes from the internet to hotel watch shop and only a few have a sea dweller in their stocks. I checked the ebay website and in the sea dweller page there were only a few Rolex sea dwellers for sale compared to Daytona. If we also check out movie star most of their Rolex are Daytona, I don’t know any actor or actress who has a sea dweller. There you have it, to all owners of sea dweller, this is to inform you that we not the Daytona owners are considered as the proud and the few.

I was given a sea dweller 8 years ago and it’s been on my wrist day & night ever since. I frequently dive with it and it looks great when I have to wear a suit. Quite simply, I think it’s the best watch in the world.

Does the man wear the Rolex or does the Rolex wear the man? Since I bought my Submariner in 1976, I’ve been on a never ending jouney. I blame it on the watch. If you own a Rolex Submariner, you can’t just sit on the porch. The watch deserves to live a life of adventure. I saw the back cover of National Geographic, Wally Herman crosses the North Pole with the aid of his Rolex. It was Tehran, Iran and It cost me $400. Rolex and me have been to the top of the tallest Mountain in Southwest Asia, Steaming jungles of Indonesia, Prudhoe Bay and Deadhorse Alaska, Helicopters skimming across the Persian Gulf. Lots of time in the Middle Eastern deserts, Two tours in Venezula, Thousands of Air journeys. Wonderful vacations and miserable jobs in miserable places. My two most valuable posessions are my Jump Wings and my Rolex.

I just got my Rolex Sea-dweller 4000 last week here in Manila, Philippines. It is truly a robust timepiece. I expect it to be very very durable and as accurate as my other Rolex timepieces. Wearing it gives me a masculine feeling & confidence as it projects a strong, reliable and sturdy image. Absolutely more masculine than my Omega Speedmaster. I love my Sea-Dweller!! I will not hesitate to use my brand new Sea-dweller in Boracay, Palawan, Dumaguete, Camiguin & other beautiful tropical islands w/ sea fronts in my country!!

I have an Omega Seamaster. It was keeping terrible time so I had it sent back to Omega. While in the store I noticed a sea dweller. Now, not being a big fan of the Submariner’s cyclops lens, I had been looking all over for a Sea Dweller. Once I had it on my wrist it wasnt coming off. Bought it right there, a few weeks later my Omega came back. I packed it up, put it in the safe and havent worn it since. The Sea Dweller is definitely king of the sea. Great watch, and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Rolex Seadweller is the ultimate man’s sportswatch. With its helium gas escape valve, it blows everything away (sorry, Breitling!) I’ve had my Seadweller 4000 since 1986.

I had my SD two years ago. Just want to ask anyone regarding care for SD. I swim a lot and wondering if chlorine does affect the luster of our watch..i.e. our SD?

The steel that Rolex uses is a much higher quality than other companies use. It is very strong, and has great anti corrosive properties. I havent heard anything about chlorine affecting the luster of a watch, I have heard of chlorine affecting the water resistance of the gaskets used in dive watches. As far as luster, I doubt that it would affect the high grade stainless steel Rolex uses. I swim with mine too, but I always rinse it in tap water when im done just to be on the safe side. You can try that if you are worried about the chlorine.

My father give to me a new sew dweller in 1985 grads present, I have three other rolex watches, explore II, cosmograph, submariner and the wacht a always wear is the dweller, nothing else compare to this watch. I send for a full refurbish and I can wait to received back.

Simon,theres a sea dweller 4000 in the shop window in Ruffs in Windsor. been eyeing for some time now. If you buy in the USA you will have to declare at customs .The US watches have differant numbers if you get caught not declaring they confiscate it.A friend of mine tried but failed!

This was my first Rolex all I have to say this is a special watch it just plain makes you feel good to own it and wear it. It is a watch I wear from work to weekend jobs to formal occasions. Sure there are flashier watches out there but simpicity and beauty along with toughness makes this watch a reliable friend to take with you everwhere.

The Sea Dweller is the way to go. 4000 ft depth rating!!! Damn that is a tough watch. It sits big on the wrist and has a real presence. Very masculine.

The Sea-Dweller is a classic. Beautiful and simple in design, but extremely robust and heavy. Other watchmakers have been trying to copy it for years!

A Sea-Dweller is the best underwater watch for real divers - professionals and those that dive deep. I am sure I won’t have the opportunity to use it’s 4000 ft. rating but it is indicative of the durability of this watch. Worth every penny.

hi every one,im from birmingham (uk) iv had a few rolex,s they have come and gone but 2 years ago i got a 2006 sd,and still wear it every day,im not changing this one its the longest rolex that iv ever kept,if anyone has any douts about this baby then there is no need,you could look at people with rolex,s on there wrist all day and may never see a sea dweller,i have to score it 9.5/10 best watch ever.
